New Extra Credit for the Week of May 6 - 10!
Since in May, we are going to be having our own "Day of the Artist and Poet" I thought we could all pull some inspiration from an "Artist and Poet" who is alive today: Mr. Austin Kleon.

What we are going to be doing for extra credit this week is looking for poetry in printed things that are not (typically) considered poetry, like newspapers and magazines.
Essentially, we are going to prove that poetry is in everything!
Essentially, we are going to prove that poetry is in everything!
Here are two options for Extra Credit! Choose one!
Here's the First Assignment!Step One: Get a hold of a magazine page or newspaper page with an article typed on it. Step Two: Get a Black Sharpie Marker. Step Three: Black out all the words you don't want to keep and make a poem out of the words you do keep. Just like Austin Kleon did for his poetry. Step Four: Bring in your "created poem." |
Here's the Alternative!Don't have newspapers or magazines handy? Parents just saying no to using the printer? No Problem! Look at our latest Blog Post and write a poem following this pattern:
1. Line from the Blog. 2. Line from your own mind. 3. Line from the Blog. 4. Line from your own mind. Continue this pattern for 20 lines! Bring it in! |
